Choosing the best holster mount! A quick look at the best options.

There are a lot of holster mounting options on the market and selecting the right one can be needlessly confusing. While we do have a YouTube video explaining the mount options we offer (you can find it here), we will try and break it down a bit more simply in this article.

We offer several different mounting options for our Outside the Waistband (OWB) holsters. There is some overlap in usage between many of them. Some have specific applications.

Let’s start with our preferred quick release holster system

Bladetech Tek Mount 360

Generally, a quick release mounting system is going to be the best bang for your buck. This allows you to use multiple different guns/holsters with just one belt setup or run the same gun/holster across multiple different belt setups.

The Tek Mount is the most advanced Quick Disconnect (QD) mount currently available. The Tek Mount 360 disc mounts to the holster while the receiver is mounted on the belt. There are standard belt height and Duty drop kits available. For most people running a tactical/battle belt the drop mount will be ideal. The Tek Mount allows you to not only quickly attach or remove the holster from the mount, but also lets you adjust the angle of the holster for a more efficient draw.

The Receiver itself is the most expensive piece of the puzzle. However, the 360 Discs are relatively inexpensive. Once you have the belt mounted receiver, any future holsters you buy only need the 360 disc to work with this system. Converting existing holsters to this pattern is also pretty inexpensive and easy. If your current holster uses Bladetech hole spacing (1.5″ center-to-center) you just need the Tek Mount 360 disc. For Safariland hole patterns, there is an adapter available to convert it to the Tek Mount disc. This Duty Drop mount is hands down the best drop/offset mount for duty/tactical and multigun competition.

Safariland QLS system

The Safariland QLS system has been a staple of tactical and 3-gun competitors’ belts for quite some time and for good reason. It is a solid QD option, though perhaps slightly less feature rich than the Tek Mounts. Again, a male fork (QLS 19 fork) is mounted to the holster and a female receiver is mounted on the belt. There is more variety of belt side attachment options, with various ride heights options available. Just make sure that they have a QLS 22 Receiver installed on them.

Keep in mind that we only sell the Holster mounted attachment (we mount it to the holster if you select the QLS 19 Fork as your mount option). You will have to source your own belt side attachment. We suggest the Mid-Ride UBL for most people. Leg straps are not included with these as they are in the Tek Mount kits, so if you plan on running one of those you will have to source one (Amazon is a good place to go for these).

G-Code RTI system

Rounding out the QD options we offer is the G-Code RTI hanger. To be honest, this is our least favorite option. It isn’t a bad option per se, but tends to be a bit more expensive than the others and the belt slide options are the least optimal. Like the others, The Male portion (RTI Hanger) mounts to the holster and the female receiver is mounted to the belt. This system locks in place via a keymod like pattern on the receiver ( Don’t forget to lock the mount in place after attaching to to the receiver!!). If you have already invested in this system for other holsters and it is working fine, I wouldn’t suggest changing up to another system. But if you haven’t selected a QD platform yet, I would steer you towards the other options.

And now for the Non-QD options…

Bladetech Tek Lok

Good ol’ Reliable. The Tek Lok isn’t a QD option, though it is very simple to put on and take off your belt in seconds. All while staying very secure. This is the least expensive option and probably the most versatile, fitting most belts from 1 1/4′-2″ tall. The downside is that it does place the holster in a fixed ride height that isn’t necessarily the most optimal. But it also doesn’t require any extra parts or pieces to work. Just open the “lock” squeeze the sides to open it up, put it over your belt, close it and rotate the lock back in place. Incredibly simple and useful.

Competition Drop/ Offset (Turbo Drop)

For the Serious shooters/Competitors, You will want a solid mount with a lot of adjustability. The Turbo Drop competition mount is a solid aluminum mount designed to bolt directly to 1.5″ competition style belts. As well as being very solid and secure, it offers both ride height and angle adjustments to really dial in the perfect draw angle. A competition belt is a must for this mount. Using this mount with a great holster (we Suggest the Baldur Holster) and a competition mount is like putting racing slicks on a drag racer. Using this with a regular belt is like putting a spoiler on Honda Civic.

Compatibility with other mount options

For QD holster mounts, I would suggest sticking with one of the above options, though there are other mounts on the market. Technically as long as the mount fits either the Bladetech or Safariland hole patterns they should work with our holsters. But temu or amazon knockoffs are just a bad idea ( so are Blackhawk! or Dara holsters mounts. Seriously, just don’t) .The options we offer are tried and true that are readily available.

There are a few others that we don’t sell that are decent options however. For example the Ben Stoeger Pro Shop BOSS Hanger or the Henning Group T-1000 mount. These are both fairly good options and will work with our holsters, just make sure you select the correct hole pattern on the holster to match the mount. They are both sold with either Bladtech or Safariland hole patterns so just double check that you have the right option picked.

Summary and suggestions

Let’s Wrap this up with some quick suggestions:

If you just want a mount for your holster for casual range trips or IDPA, Select the Tek Lok.

If you are building out a tactical belt, We suggest the Tek Mount kit on Duty drop kit, or the QLS 19 fork if you already have the belt side attachment.

If you are building a 3 gun/ tactical games/ PCSL belt, again we suggest the Tek Mount on Duty drop kit or the QLS 19 fork.

If you are building a Pistol competition belt for USPSA, Steel Challenge or PCSL, Either the Turbo Drop Competition mount (IF you are running a 1.5″ competition belt) or the Henning Group T-1000 would be our suggestion.
